Seamless Integration: From Digital Twin to Shipyard Execution

Engineering Excellence to Minimize Downtime and Eliminate Installation Risks.

The Retrofit Challenge

Retrofitting a Ballast Water Management System into an existing vessel is a complex architectural puzzle. Space is limited, original drawings are often outdated, and shipyard time is expensive.

YAF Diesel specializes in turning this complexity into a streamlined, predictable process. As your engineering partner, we don’t just supply the BSKY system—we manage the entire lifecycle of the retrofit to ensure the system fits perfectly the first time, with zero on-site surprises.

Our Turnkey Retrofit Process

1) 3D Laser Scanning & Feasibility

We begin by sending our specialized team to your vessel anywhere in the world. Using high-speed 3D laser scanners, we capture the exact geometry of your engine room or pump room with millimeter-level accuracy, then build a highly accurate digital twin to identify the best placement for BSKY components.

2) Detailed Engineering & Design

Our in-house team uses the scan data to develop a full engineering package:

  • Piping & foundation design: Custom routing for minimal pressure drops and easy maintenance access.
  • Electrical integration: Power requirements, cabling routes, and automation interfacing.
  • Class approval management: Submissions to DNV, ABS, LR, CCS, BV and more.

3) Pre-Fabrication (The 50% Time Saver)

With precise 3D models, we pre-fabricate piping, brackets and foundations before the vessel arrives at the yard—reducing on-board installation time by up to 50% and lowering shipyard costs.

4) Installation & Commissioning

Whether at sea, at berth or during a scheduled dry-docking, YAF Diesel supervisors oversee installation. Factory-certified technicians perform commissioning, crew training and testing to secure your license to operate.

Focus: predictable scope, predictable schedule, predictable class approval—no retrofit surprises.

The YAF Diesel Advantage

Feature Standard Retrofit YAF Diesel Retrofit
Measurement Manual (higher error risk) 3D Laser Scanning (digital twin accuracy)
Design 2D drawings only 3D integration + clash detection
Shipyard Time 15–20 days 7–10 days (via pre-fabrication)
Class Approval Managed by owner Managed by YAF Diesel Engineering
Installation Untrained labor Factory-certified supervisors

Lower Risk

Clash detection and pre-fabrication reduce rework, delays, and unexpected yard costs.

Faster Return to Service

Shorter docking windows and predictable commissioning timelines.

Electrical & Automation Expertise

A successful retrofit isn’t just about pipes—it’s about power and data. Our electrical department ensures that the BSKY control system integrates with your vessel’s alarm and monitoring systems.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can 3D scanning be done while the ship is in operation?

Yes. Our team can board during a voyage or at a port of call. Scanning does not interfere with normal ship operations.

What if our ship has very limited space for a BWMS?

This is why we use BSKY’s Modular Configuration. Our 3D engineering allows us to split components into different locations, utilizing dead space otherwise unusable.

Do you provide voyage installations (riding crews)?

Yes. To reduce dry-docking delays, YAF Diesel can provide riding crews to perform much of the piping and electrical work while in transit.

Eliminate the guesswork from your next BWMS retrofit.
